SOM Sleep for Better Recovery

Let's face it, we could all probably use some extra sleep. I hit the snooze all too often. I train hard, and need more quality sleep. But sometimes there just isn't enough time in the day to do all the workouts AND all the adulting. With a busy schedule, sleep is the first thing to go.

Even though I try to get on average about 7 hours of sleep, I'm tossing and turning all night. It sometimes feels like I only got more like 4 hours. I end up still exhausted and unmotivated to workout. And when you're pushing your body to its limits, you need the extra time to recover! Sleep is when the body rebuilds and restores. So it's crucial to get some quality Z's.

For more on why quality sleep is so important for athletic performance, check out this article from Men's Journal. With my training increasing, and my sleep suffering... I was excited to see how Som could help!

First off, what IS it? Som is a supplement to help you fall asleep faster and get a better night's sleep. But unlike other sleep aid's I've tried, it's non-habit forming and is designed to not leave you feeling groggy. I tried the Som Zero Sugar line, with only 10 calories and zero sugar. You simply drink a can 30-minutes before bed and Som takes care of the rest.

The taste is light and not too sweet or too bitter. It is slightly carbonated, and tastes best chilled in the fridge.

It definitely made me sleepy within 30 minutes and by the time I crawled into bed with the pups, I was fast asleep! What I really liked was there was definitely a lot less tossing and turning in bed, and I felt much more rested and ready to tackle the morning.

You can see by my Garmin sleep tracking results the difference between a night without Som, versus a night after drinking Som. More deep sleep (which is what's needed for quality rest).

After a good night's sleep with Som, I was awake and ready to charge up mountains for the sunrise! It definitely helped. And I'd recommend it if you are having trouble getting quality sleep.

I don't use it every night now, only when I notice I'm not sleeping well. Sometimes I might only have half a serving as well. It's been a great addition to my training.
