Ten Reasons to Run the Sedona Marathon

I've registered for the Sedona Marathon this February 4, 2017 and will be running as a BibRave Pro. This isn't my first time at the Sedona Marathon events (read my review from last year HERE). Today, I'm breaking down Ten Reasons to Run The Sedona Marathon!

1.) THE SCENERY
The Sedona Marathon event is the most scenic road race I've ever participated in. The course takes you through the scenic Coconino National Forest District where you'll run past iron-clad rock formations. There's breath-taking scenery from start to finish!

2.) THE HILLS
I won't deny it, the Sedona Marathon is a hilly course. But it's not the hilliest race I've ever encountered. It may not be a course you want to PR on, but it's the perfect race to kick back and enjoy the scenery with friends and family. Plus, it's challenging enough to help get you ready for any PR races you're shooting for down the road.

3.) THE HIGH-FIVES
The out-and-back course means as your get farther in, you'll be passing people on your way back. And some people will be passing you. Why not help spread the cheer and positive vibes with some high-fives along the way? I know I did last year and it not only made others smile, but helped push me as well!

4.) THE FAMILY-FRIENDLY VARIETY

There's a distance for every member of your family or friend: Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k & 5k. There's even a Youth 10k & 5k for 12 and under!

5.) THE BLING
Every year you receive a different piece of a circle. Complete the Sedona Marathon in consecutive years, and it will make one big medal! I'm on may way for my second piece this year.

6.) THE RACE MANAGEMENT
The Sedona Marathon is incredibly well-managed. And because of that, there are no "race day" headaches. Parking is a breeze. Plenty of restrooms. And it's out-and-back. So no worry about drop bags, etc. Plus, there are tons of shuttles from many of the host hotels willing to drop you off at the start!

7.) THE WEATHER
It's chilly at the start, so bring a "throwaway" sweater or something you can ditch at the last minute. But by the time you start running, you're in perfect race conditions. Shorts and maybe a thin long sleeve or even a tee are ideal.

8.) THE HIKING
Whether it's before the race or after, all that beautiful scenery is calling for you to take a hike with family or friends and see the beauty Sedona, AZ has to offer up close and personal. And climbing up some of those trails makes for a perfect post-race photo, am I right? ;-)

Even the Pups like to get out for a hike! Mine love Sedona. :-D
9.) THE BRAGGING RIGHTS
The Sedona Marathon has been listed as one of the "Best Marathons in Arizona-Runner's Choice Arizona's Top Marathons" by Runners Goal, one of "America's Greatest 25 Half Marathons" by Competitor Magazine, and even the "Most Beautiful Race in the Country" by runner reviews on BibRave.com

10.) THE POST-RACE RECOVERY
Sometimes it's not just about the race, but the variety of things you can do AFTER. Not up for a hike? You can relax at one of Sedona's many resorts and spas, or kick back with a local brew at the Oak Creek Brewery.  Sore but still want to take in the sights? How about at sightseeing Pink Jeep Tour!
